Directory

This directory organizes a fragmented market. Thousands of companies compete in every town — commercial wall-and-ceiling shops and residential production crews — and there is no clean map of who actually works which town. Browse by market, by scope, and by market type (residential / commercial / both). Three audiences stay distinct: (1) commercial general contractors, (2) commercial drywall contractors (subs / W&C), (3) homeowners seeking residential drywall contractors. Do not treat homeowners as the GC analog. Do not mix residential crews with commercial W&C shops.

On the commercial side, general contractors and commercial drywall contractors are two listing types in the same metros so those two sides can find each other. Drywall-contractor scopes are taken from the shop’s official website (source of truth), mapped onto our wall-and-ceiling taxonomy, and used to connect that commercial sub to general contractors who need that work in a market. On the residential side, homeowners look for a quality residential drywall contractor in every town — a second two-sided market, US-wide later worldwide. First ship: existing U.S. metros only. Manufacturers and suppliers sit one layer down, for submittals and the truck.

Launch drywall-contractor and general-contractor indexes by town are empty. We will not invent companies, reviews, or crew counts. Do not scrape tonight. Launch manufacturer listings are editorial directory stubs: official website and what the company makes. They are not paid advertisements. First-ship listings are unranked — no stars, no imported Google/Yelp/Angi ratings, no ratings UI. Later: homeowner quality surveys stay separate from GC surveys. Sponsored listings, if any appear later, will say so.

Request a listing or a correction with the contact form. Company name, official website (required for a drywall-contractor listing), listing type (drywall contractor or general contractor), trades, market type (residential / commercial / both — required for drywall contractors), home metro, and other markets served. We will not publish a personal name, personal email, phone number, or street address.

Commercial: general contractors ↔ drywall contractors

Two listing types. Never a generic “contractors” list. This block is commercial only — homeowners are a distinct third audience, below.

Commercial general contractors buy the wall-and-ceiling package. Commercial drywall contractors (W&C subs) sell it. They need each other by market and by scope — not by whoever’s office is nearest. General contractors travel to the job. Drywall contractors are more localized than general contractors, but they travel too. The market has no clean map of who actually works which town. We map advertised scopes from the drywall contractor’s website onto our taxonomy, then connect that commercial (or both) shop to GCs who need that work in a market they actually work. Do not mix unlabeled residential crews into this match.

Both archives ship empty. Noindex until there is at least one real listing of that type. We will not invent companies. When a listing exists it carries a home metro and other markets served — not HQ city only. A drywall-contractor listing also carries scopes mapped from the official website and a market type flag. Listings are unranked.

Homeowners: residential drywall contractors

A third audience. Not the GC analog. Not commercial W&C.

Homeowners looking for a quality residential drywall contractor in every town. Huge opportunity US-wide, later worldwide. First ship: existing U.S. metros only — do not add international cities tonight. Residential production crews stay distinct from commercial wall-and-ceiling shops via the market-type flag.

Empty at launch. Unranked — no stars, no Google/Yelp import. Later: a homeowner quality survey, separate from the GC survey. We will not invent residential crews.

Browse by market

Location is metro first, town when a real listing needs it. Never a street. Drywall contractors and general contractors use the same vocabulary. A listing is tagged for the metros it works (home plus travel), not only the office city. Drywall-contractor rows also flag market type so a homeowner browsing a town does not get an unlabeled commercial W&C list, and a GC does not get unlabeled residential crews.

No companies are listed by town at launch. Metro archives stay unpublished-to-index until a listing exists. First ship: this U.S. metro list only. Later: every town US-wide, then worldwide — do not add international cities tonight. The vocabulary is ready:

Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Birmingham, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas–Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis–St. Paul, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Raleigh–Durham, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, Washington DC.

Archives: `/directory/markets/{slug}/` (see `ia.md` for slugs). Filter or badge drywall contractor vs general contractor, and badge drywall-contractor market type (residential / commercial / both), so the three audiences stay distinct. First-ship listings are unranked — no stars on these archives. Add any other U.S. metro when a real company is listed as working there. Do not invent a town to rank for it. Do not add international metros tonight.

Browse by scope

The commercial package is the wall and ceiling industry — metal stud, insulation, hang, tape, paint, ACT, rough carp, specialty, IMP, DFH, fasteners, and related work. Residential hang/finish/texture uses the same scope terms but a different market type flag — do not treat residential crews as commercial W&C shops.

Metal stud / light-gauge framing

/directory/steel-stud-framing/

Interior cold-formed steel: C-stud and track, EQ members, shaftwall stud and J-runner, slotted deflection track, furring, clips. The metal-stud package most commercial drywall subs already carry.

Related guide: Steel stud framing basics.

Exterior cold-formed framing

/directory/exterior-cfs-framing/

Exterior and structural CFS — a sibling of the interior drywall stud, not the same bid. Mills that make both may appear here and under light-gauge framing. Drywall-contractor side empty at launch.

Insulation

/directory/insulation/

Spray foam, fiberglass batt, mineral wool, and sound attenuation that often sit inside the commercial drywall number — and on the residential side when the scope includes it.

Exterior sheathing

/directory/exterior-sheathing/

Glass-mat and gypsum sheathing that closes the backup. Manufacturer stubs that clearly make this product are tagged here. Drywall-contractor side empty at launch.

Drywall hanging

/directory/drywall-hanging/

Hang / board-up shops. Empty of drywall contractors at launch. We will not invent hanging crews.

Related guide: How to hang drywall.

Drywall taping / finishing

/directory/finishing/

Joint compound, tape, paper- and vinyl-faced beads, control-joint accessories, texture materials, and Level 5 / skim systems — and the tape/finish shops that apply them. Slug stays `finishing` (guides already point here).

Related guide: Drywall finishing levels.

Painting

/directory/painting/

Paint that rides with a W&C or production-drywall package. Empty at launch.

Acoustical ceilings (ACT)

/directory/act/

Suspended acoustical ceiling grid and tile. Ceiling-system manufacturers that clearly belong are tagged here. Drywall-contractor side empty at launch.

Misc rough carpentry

/directory/rough-carpentry/

Rough carpentry that comes with the wall-and-ceiling bid. Empty at launch.

Specialty installation

/directory/specialty-installation/

Specialty W&C and related work that does not have its own term yet. Empty at launch. Not a junk “other” bin for unrelated trades.

Insulated metal panels

/directory/insulated-metal-panels/

IMP. Empty at launch. Do not invent installers or mills.

Doors / frames / hardware

/directory/doors-frames-hardware/

DFH that W&C shops carry. Empty at launch.

Fasteners

/directory/fasteners/

Drywall and framing fasteners — board-to-steel, board-to-wood, collated systems, metal-to-metal. Production tool lines stay under Tools as well.

Company-type archives

Drywall contractors and general contractors are separate archives — see the commercial two-sided block and the homeowners block. Manufacturers, suppliers, and tools are the referral layer, not the local-shop index. Drywall-contractor listings always flag market type.

Manufacturers

/directory/manufacturers/

Board, cold-formed steel, fasteners, joint compound, trim, ceiling systems, sheathing, insulation. Stubs point at official sites so a PM can pull submittals and UL designs from the source.

See seed listings for USG, CertainTeed, National Gypsum, Georgia-Pacific, American Gypsum, PABCO, and others.

Suppliers

/directory/suppliers/

Gypsum distributors and specialty houses that stock what the truck actually needs: Type X and Type C, shaftliner, 54-inch board, 20-ga and EQ stud, compound, texture, fasteners.

Tools

/directory/tools/

Production tools — screw guns and collated systems, panel lifts, stilts, automatic tapers, hoppers, lasers — not a consumer tool wall.

Drywall contractors

/directory/drywall-contractors/

Every drywall contractor listing, any scope. Not general contractors. Each listing flags market type: residential / commercial / both. Filter or badge that flag — residential production crews and commercial W&C shops are never one unlabeled list. Peer index (teaming, overflow, another market). Commercial (and both) shops are the match for general contractors. Residential (and both) shops are the match for homeowners seeking a quality residential drywall contractor in a town. Not a “get three quotes” widget.

A real listing requires an official website. Ingest (later, not tonight): open the sub’s site, read the advertised scopes, map them onto our taxonomy slugs (`scopes[]`), set `markets` from what the shop advertises (do not guess “both”), record source “from company website” and a last-reviewed date. Mapped scopes plus market connect a commercial shop to general contractors who need that work. Residential shops go to homeowner browse. Do not scrape or invent companies to fill this archive.

This archive ships empty. A drywall contractor that wants to be listed can say so on the contact form — company name, official website, scopes, market type commercial (W&C) / residential / both, home metro, and other markets served. We still verify scopes against the site. No street address required. Listings are unranked; we will not import Google/Yelp/Angi stars or invent reviews. Later GC surveys and homeowner quality surveys stay separate.

General contractors

/directory/general-contractors/

Commercial general contractors who buy the wall-and-ceiling package (audience 1). Same metros as commercial drywall contractors. Home metro plus other markets served. Homeowners are not this archive and are not a GC analog.

This archive ships empty and stays noindex until ≥1 real listing. Do not invent general contractors. A general contractor that wants to be listed can say so on the contact form — company name, official website, home metro, and other markets served. No street address required. Not tagged into drywall-contractor scopes. Listings are unranked; no ratings UI. Later GC survey is not mixed with homeowner quality surveys.
