Drywall panel lifts for ceiling hang

A panel lift exists so two people are not palming a sheet overhead. Ceilings, 4×12 and 4×16 stock, and any bay where the board should land on the joists or the drywall tees without cracking a tapered edge — that is the job. This page is for hang crews and owners, not for a first-time homeowner with a rented hoist.

Brand names below are class language (Telpro-class, Panelift-class) so a PM knows what the trailer means. We do not invent model numbers, prices, ASINs, or retailer URLs. Retailer programs are not live. When they are, hops will sit next to the class and the affiliate disclosure applies. Buy from the current catalog and the dealer that stocks parts.

The hang sequence those lifts serve is how to hang drywall. The tool cluster is production tools. Directory: Tools. Product door: Products.

What the production unit actually does

The lift takes a sheet on a cradle, wheels into the bay, and cranks or winches the board to the ceiling so the hanger can fasten from a rolling bench, a ladder the site allows, or the floor on a low house ceiling. It does not change fastener spacing, board type, or orientation. It does not replace a second set of hands on a warped joist or a drywall-suspension tee that is not in plane.

What matters in the trailer

The wrong lift for the bay is how you crack a tapered edge before the board is fastened. That is a finish-level problem you bought at the hang.

Commercial drywall-suspension is not a house ceiling

On a wood-joist house ceiling the lift is a labor saver. On commercial drywall-suspension the board still has to be oriented to the tees the way the catalog and the drawings require. The lift does not change that rule. If the tee spacing, the hanger wire, and the board direction are wrong, a perfect crank still photographs.

Shaftliner, 1-inch liner panel, and area-separation board are their own handling. Do not assume a wallboard lift is the shaftliner plan. Vertical 10-foot stock on metal stud is often a two-person walk-up, not a ceiling crank.

Stilts do not set ceiling board. Mixing those jobs is how a 4×12 gets walked into a soffit.

Residential production vs commercial interiors

DecisionResidential productionCommercial wall and ceiling
Why you own one4×12 / 4×16 ceilings, 54-inch horizontal stockSame lifts; plus high bays and drywall-suspension
OrientationJoists; ceilings first in the hang sequenceTees and the catalog rule; fire design can lock direction
Stock1/2-inch sag-resistant and regular5/8 Type X, sometimes 12-foot; shaftliner is separate
Reach around the liftStilts and benchesBenches, lifts, pump jacks; stilts only if the site allows
PunchA compact lift or two people on a small patchSame punch cart; do not send a house lift into a 20-foot lobby without checking height

A residential production crew that picks up a school TI should confirm the lift will reach and that the board will sit on the tees correctly. A commercial W&C shop that takes a tract of houses should not leave the lift on the other truck — 4×12 ceilings are why the unit exists.

How shops actually buy

Pro tool dealer / box store. Telpro-class and Panelift-class units, replacement wheels, winch parts. This is a tool-crib purchase, not a gypsum-house pallet.

Gypsum house. Board still comes from there. The lift does not.

Rental. Some shops rent the second unit for a high bay. Rent the class that matches the stock length, not “a drywall hoist.”

Retailer programs are not live. We will not invent an ASIN, a price, or an associate tag. See the affiliate disclosure.

Fasten the board with a depth-sensitive screw gun and the right Type W or Type S fastener. The lift only gets the sheet there.

FAQ

Do we need a lift for walls?

Not as the primary tool. Walls are a walk-up or a bench. The lift earns its keep on ceilings and on stock that is too long to palm.

Will one lift cover houses and a gym?

Confirm height and cradle on the current catalog. High bays are often a different reach plan. This page will not invent a model number that covers both.

Does the lift change fastener spacing?

No. Spacing is C840 / GA-216 and the fire design. The lift is handling.

Are retailer links on this page affiliate links?

Not yet. Programs are not live. When they are, they will be disclosed here and on the affiliate disclosure.
